Juniors Classes

Pre-teen and teen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu — competitive-ready training and an anti-bullying toolkit.

Ages 10-14

The Juniors program at Gracie Barra Coral Springs prepares students ages ten to fourteen for the full demands of adult Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Sergio Costa and the coaching staff run these classes with the intensity and technical precision appropriate for this age group — which is capable of absorbing complex instruction, training with live resistance, and competing at IBJJF Kids and Teens tournaments if they choose to.

Classes cover all major positions and submission chains with the depth needed for competition. Live positional sparring is a regular feature — students practice applying technique against a fully resisting partner under direct instructor supervision. This is how BJJ skills become actually usable: not through repetition of cooperative drilling alone, but through the problem-solving that happens when a partner is actively working to counter your movements. The coaching staff teaches competition strategy alongside technique, so students who want to compete have the mental framework as well as the technical ability.

The Juniors program is also where students develop a personal game rather than just memorizing sequences. Professor Costa encourages practitioners at this level to begin identifying which positions and techniques work best for their body type and athletic tendencies. This kind of self-knowledge develops over time but starts here — and it's what separates practitioners who plateau from those who continue improving into adult training.

The transition from Juniors into the adult program is deliberate, not abrupt. Students who graduate from the Juniors curriculum into the adult class typically find they can hold their own immediately, because the difficulty progression has been gradual and consistent.
