Little Champs 1 Classes
Age-appropriate Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for early elementary kids — discipline, focus, and the first real techniques.
Little Champions 1 is where six-and-seven-year-olds at Gracie Barra Coral Springs encounter the Gracie Barra kids curriculum in earnest. This age group is developmentally ready to receive explicit instruction, drill with a partner, and retain technique from session to session — which means the classes are no longer purely game-based. Professor Sergio Costa's coaching staff teaches the foundational positions and movements that form the language of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: guard, mount, side control, takedowns, escapes, and age-appropriate self-defense concepts.
Every class follows the same three-step teaching sequence: demonstration, partner drilling, and positional play. The demonstration gives children the visual model. Drilling with a partner builds the physical memory. Positional play lets children practice what they learned with a moving partner, which is how technique actually becomes usable. This structure is not arbitrary — it mirrors how the best motor-skill education programs are designed for children in the six-to-seven range.
The Gracie Barra belt-and-stripe system gives Little Champions 1 students concrete goals to track. Earning a stripe requires consistent attendance, demonstrated technique, and the kind of respectful behavior the school expects on and off the mat. Children in this program frequently come home from class eager to show parents what they learned — a reliable sign that the program is holding engagement at a level that typical youth activities don't always manage.
Parents across Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, and Margate report that children who train in Little Champions 1 become noticeably more coachable in other areas of life. The regular practice of receiving correction, adjusting, and trying again is a skill that transfers. Call (954) 913-4786 to schedule your child's free trial class.
